Gettin Ready for Summer

It's been a couple weeks since I have written, but I'm in love with this refashion!  I took an old button up shirt that I had given up on; nothing was WRONG with it, but I had been wearing it for quite a few years, and was completely over it.  I never wore it anymore.

Thus, the refashion!  I chopped off the sleeves, picked the collar and removed it, and removed the ruffle.  Then I chopped off the bottom and added some of the sleeve length into it so I could add a few pleats.

I made the waistband with the other sleeve, and covered it with a piece of lace, changed the buttons, added a zipper on the side so I could get it on, took in some of the darts below the chest and on the back, and voila, I LOVE this shirt!

I know it's kind of hard to see details because of the sun, but it's been too nice to be inside...Hope you are enjoying weather as beautiful as we are!

Apple Turnovers? Yes Please!

Well with all these posts on refashioning, and none about patchwork, or pastries(!), I figure it's about time I talk about one of the two words that title my blog!

So here's a peek at a recipe I have been tweaking recently.  Apple Turnovers!
They are made with a moist, danish pastry dough, then filled with apples just slightly softened in a saute pan(I prefer McIntosh for this recipe), and the apples are sweetened with a honey caramel prior to baking.

Brush with an egg wash prior to baking, then finished off with a honey glaze post-baking, this dessert is free of refined sugar.

I hope this is a recipe I am serving on my catering truck one day, which I'm in the process of building out and prepping a business plan for...but more on that later.  And more on the truck; I think it is going to be a refreshing change for the world of food/catering trucks!

Anthropologie Inspired!

Here's a refashion from Goodwill.  An oversized dress.  Chopped the bottom off, changed the neckline, took in the sides, and voila!  I loved this print...it reminds me of a lot of the tops from Anthropologie!

Hi all!

Here's to my second posting!

I've been cleaning out the closets here, and it's time to get rid of some previous crafts.  I got married in 2011, and made all my flowers for my reception.  It was a lot of fun at the time, definitely time consuming, but the costs it saved in real flowers was worth it.

Again, as I get into this whole blog thing, I'll get better about taking pics in the process, but pretty much this is a tutorial I followed to create my own flowers.   Fabric Flower Tutorial

I absolutely love the colors she uses in her tutorial!  Enjoy!

Alpaca Wool Slippers

Well here goes the first attempt at blogging.  I recently jumped on the refashioning train, and it has been a lot of fun!  I plan to get better at taking before and after pics, but here is the 'after' pic of a pair of men's house slippers I made.

I purchased an alpaca wool sweater from the thrift store, and felted it.  The interior of the slippers is cotton flannel, scraps from another refashion, and the sole is scrap leather that I have had FOREVER.

Padding for the sole was created with some felt and batting that I layered together.

Sizing with this was difficult.  Now that I have created my first pair, I will know better for the future.

Enjoy!
